Rehairs

Mitas sources and sorts the highest available quality Siberian, Argentinian, Mongolian hair for rehairs.

Mitas has rehaired thousands of bows for professional players, soloists, fiddlers, and students, and enjoys rehairing Period bows and Bass bows.

Jacob is, bar none, the Dover Quartet’s favorite bow rehairer.

We have been known to ship bows to him to have them rehaired before a major recording or concert! On top of that, he’s such a wonderful person and we trust his advice and honesty as much as we trust his workmanship.

Eugene Sartory Cello Bow

Head Graft

Graft in progress

Occasionally heads on bows need to be replaced. For this Sartory cello bow, Mitas painstakingly selected a piece of pernambuco and grafted it to the stick, using a 1:12 ratio for a strong scarf joint.

The finished head

Once the new piece of wood was grafted, Mitas carved the head to match the original.
